We are privileged to receive this inaugural award from Asian Private Banker and I’m proud of all the achievements by my team in the past year despite the challenging circumstances during the pandemic.

This award is testament to HSBC’s wealth ambition and commitment in mainland China. In 2022, we expanded our footprint to six cities in mainland China with many market-first breakthroughs in propositions and digital capabilities.

In 2023, we shall build on this good foundation and bring more exciting new services and solutions to clients and support their wealth management and legacy needs.

What was behind the judges’ decision?

  • HSBC Global Private Banking significantly built out its presence in the onshore mainland China during the period under consideration, including the expansion into new geographic regions, the appointment of a dedicated CIO, and the hiring of around 100 staf
  • The bank showed a strong willingness to innovate in terms of products in onshore China, such as by launching a dedicated hedge fund solution via a trust structure for clients in this market, making it the first international bank to do so
  • Leveraging on the group’s extensive global capabilities, the bank convinced the judging panel that it was the leading proposition for internationally-minded HNWI clients in onshore mainland China, including through its services for asset allocation, legal and tax advisory, philanthropy, next generation and succession planning

During 2022, HSBC Global Private Banking noticeably raised its ambitions in the onshore China market, both by substantially expanding its geographical footprint and by building up its frontline teams. But all of that would mean little without the global connectivity, second-to-none product platform and market-leading client service that Global Private Banking brings to the table,” said Daniel Shane, editor of Asian Private Banker.

For all these reasons and more, Asian Private Banker is thrilled to hand HSBC Global Private Banking its first-ever Best International Private Bank – China accolade at the 12th Awards for Distinction, the region’s leading industry awards programme.
